Rocks In East Tennessee: A Photo Essay

Stonework in Don and Sue's Garden

Don and Sue Williams’ garden is located on a high bluff overlooking the Tennessee River. The property had been a rock quarry at one time, and there were many large limestone rocks visible in this beautiful woodland. Don was a beloved professor at the University of Tennessee who was primarily responsible for creating the UT Gardens. He was an artist, not only with a paintbrush, but also a sculptor with rock. Sue was a wildflower expert who led nature seminars all over East Tennessee. Together, they created what I consider the most beautiful garden I have ever experienced.
