Elisabeth & Rod Zander
Land of Goshen, Connecticut
Elisabeth & Rod Zander
Goshen, CT, is the land of plenty... well, of rocks. When they met, Rod had a background of fine wood and stone fabrication. Elisabeth had been running the NARGS Seedex and growing from seed. Each winter as a new crop of rock would freeze/thaw to the surface, Elisabeth would design and Rod would implement new beds. Rod and Elisabeth have been building and growing this Goshen garden for over twenty years. Rocks are still plentiful.
Paul Spriggs
Gardening in a Rain Shadow Climate
Paul Spriggs
This talk will focus on Paul's personal garden, located in Victoria, BC, Canada, and his experience gardening in the summer-dry, sub-Mediterranean climate that exists in the rain shadow of the local mountain ranges. Paul, co-author of The Crevice Garden, has been rock gardening for roughly 26 years. He is owner of Spriggs Gardens Landscaping company and past President of the VIRAGS.
Tony Avent
Surround Yourself with Shady Characters
Tony Avent
Most articles and talks on plants for woodland gardens come from a cold summer climate perspective. There are, however, an incredible array of little-known shade-loving plants that will also thrive in the hot summers of eastern North Carolina. With the warmer summer in many other regions, many of these may be worth trying in your gardens. Tony is a crazy plant collector and the founder of Juniper Level Botanic Garden as well as Plant Delights Nursery.
Adam Black
Nerdy Plants and their Niches in the Rockery
Adam Black
Botanical wanderlust exposes one to all sorts of rarely seen plants growing in some of the oddest places. Adam will showcase some eye candy from various recent travels around the world and ambitious ideas to incorporate into rock gardens based on Nature. Adam has a lifelong passion for rare plants. He is Director of Horticulture and Plant Conservation at Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories and Arboretum in Charlotte, NC.
